The Visitor is an internationally produced short film, between Croatia and the UK designed specifically for the European and US festival circuits. The aim of the project is to promote the talents of those involved, establish strong international relationships in the film medium, promote the technical and logistical benefits for shooting in Croatia and reveal the stunning locations to an international audience.

Set in the mountainous wilds of the lakes and woods, a foreboding stranger stumbles upon the remnants of a decaying village. It’s only inhabitants -- three elderly women abandoned by time and community, struggling to prepare for what may be their last winter. When the stranger offers to help, the women oblige him shelter and food, but as the weather changes and supplies run low, fate has a plan beyond their control.

‘The Visitor,’ written by film and theatre actress Ania Marson, is an in depth character study inspired by true accounts of the abandoned women of Siberia. Whole villages populated only by elderly women, the men dead from alcohol and the youth lost to the cities.

Combined with memories from Ania’s childhood in Poland and woven in the style of a dark fairytale, ‘The Visitor’ examines the experience of isolation and our fractious acceptance of the indiscriminating powers of environment, time and death.
